The Need for Coaches in Project Management

Project Management requires a multitude of skill sets. All of which need a lifetime of experience to be an expert. The ever-changing business environment and technological advances mean that a lot of knowledge quickly become obsolete. Coaches can do a lot to help compensate for the weaknesses of any Project Manager. They do not have to be on the payroll fulltime. Most coaches are professional freelancers. Harvard Business Review conducted a study showing that 1 of 6 IT projects run up to 100%  over budget. Mentors such as those can greatly increase the change of project success. It is definitely more cost-effective than project failure.
